چکیده

This paper qualitatively compares three recently proposed models for signal/image texture extraction based on total variation minimization: the Meyer [27], Vese-Osher (VO) [35], and TV-L1 [12,38,2–4,29–31] models. We formulate discrete versions of these models as second-order cone programs (SOCPs) which can be solved efficiently by interior-point methods. Our experiments with these models on 1D oscillating signals and 2D images reveal their differences: the Meyer model tends to extract oscillation patterns in the input, the TV-L1 model performs a strict multiscale decomposition, and the Vese-Osher model has properties falling in between the other two models.

Dynamic Texture Extraction and Video Denoising

According to recent works, introduced by Y.Meyer [1] the decomposition models based on Total Variation (TV) appear as a very good way to extract texture from image sequences. Indeed, videos show up characteristic variations along the temporal dimension which can be catched in the decomposition framework. However, there are very few works in literature which deal with spatio-temporal decompositi...

Second-Order Statistical Texture Representation of Asphalt Pavement Distress Images Based on Local Binary Pattern in Spatial and Wavelet Domain

Assessment of pavement distresses is one of the important parts of pavement management systems to adopt the most effective road maintenance strategy. In the last decade, extensive studies have been done to develop automated systems for pavement distress processing based on machine vision techniques. One of the most important structural components of computer vision is the feature extraction met...

Temporal Variation of Interrill Erosion Affected by Slope Gradient in Soils with Different Texture

The process of splash of soil particles by raindrops and their transport by splash or surface shallow flow is considered as interrill erosion, which can reduce soil fertility and cause pollution of surface water. This research was carried out to investigate the temporal variation of interrill erosion in different soils affected by surface slope. For this purpose, laboratory experiments were car...
